Vision is more than just 20/20 eyesight
Vision Therapy Of San Antonio is dedicated to helping children, adolescents, and adults to learn how to use their vision accurately and efficiently. Vision therapy deals with building new neural pathways in the brain to enable the person to process information from the eyes more efficiently.
The link between vision and learning
The pediatrician examines your child and reports that she has passed the eye test. The school nurse gets the same results. But, when your child reads, she keeps losing her place, skips words or lines, and she cannot remember the words that she just read on the previous page.
What is the problem?
- Two-thirds of all input into the brain originates from the eyes.
- Eighty percent of what a child learns in the classroom is obtained through the visual system.
- Vision is the dominant sense for learning. If the visual system is inefficient, it can impede the ability to learn and comprehend what is seen and read.
What can you do?
Early detection can save years of struggling. Your child may never learn to enjoy reading if the problem is not solved early in their life.
The solution?
Through vision therapy, many of these deficiencies can be corrected. Research has shown that vision therapy can be instrumental in helping increase visual attention spans for children learning to read. Often, children who had been falling behind in reading are able to improve their performance greatly by reducing the effects of their vision problems. Vision therapy truly allows kids to enjoy learning and become more confident, happier people.
In our office, we use many interactive computer programs that our younger patients enjoy and that result in long-lasting success as well as a trampoline, balance boards and a variety of other activities which are performed while wearing special glasses. The “fun” nature of our program keeps children motivated to work, and thus, we find that results come quicker and stronger for our patients.
